Deadly Construction Accident in Downtown Macon

Published in Uncategorized on November 12, 2019.

A deadly construction accident recently occurred at a worksite that was located near Spring Street, located in downtown Macon. The accident occurred when one of the construction workers fell from a bridge that was approximately 30 feet tall.

The September 6, 2019, incident involved metal decking that was located at the top of a bridge. When the decking unexpectedly collapsed, the worker fell almost 30 feet onto a concrete drainage ditch that was located below. Following the accident, the worker was left in critical condition. The worker’s employer was apparently investigating the incident in order to try and determine exactly what occurred.

Unfortunately, workplace accidents – especially at construction sites – happen all too frequently. Whenever a worker suffers a construction site injury while at work, he or she will likely be able to make a claim for workers’ compensation benefits from his or her employer.

If you have suffered a serious injury while on the job, do not delay in seeking treatment or legal representation following your accident. The Macon workers’ compensation attorneys at Nelson & Smith Attorneys at Law can explain your legal rights and may be able to file a claim for workers’ compensation benefits on your behalf. Call us today at (478) 746-1468 or contact us online to learn more about how we could assist you with bringing your workers’ compensation claim and pursuing benefits on your behalf.

Qualifying for Workers Compensation Benefits in Macon

In order to be eligible to make a claim for workers’ compensation benefits, you must meet several qualifications. First, you must be able to demonstrate that you suffered an injury or illness while you were at work on the job. Next, you must show that your illness or injury happened during the course of your employment – and that you were acting in the scope of your employment at that time. If you cannot satisfy one or more of these conditions, the Workers’ Compensation Board will likely deny your benefits claim. In some instances, you might be able to appeal a claim denial.

Types of Potential Workers Compensation Benefits Available

If you have suffered an injury or illness while at your job, you might be able to obtain workers’ compensation benefits for the following:

  • A portion of your lost earnings
  • All of your related medical treatment stemming from your workplace injury or illness
  • Vocational rehabilitation (if applicable)
  • Permanency benefits
  • Total disability benefits

A knowledgeable Macon workers’ compensation attorney can help you pursue these benefits, depending upon the specific circumstances involved.
